Technical Engagements

Small (<500) Non-Profit Company

Worked with company to move approximately 600 mailboxes running on Exchange 2010 to Exchange Online. The computing environment consisted of a 70/30 mix of Outlook clients exist on Citrix and physical workstations, respectively. Their Exchange 2010 system used Proofpoint for email hygiene, with all inbound and outbound email traffic to flowing through Proofpoint first before email reception and delivery.

For this environment, I needed to implement a few changes such as update of TLS 1.2 on all their Exchange 2010 servers to meet Microsoft requirements for secure communications to Azure; as well as Office 365 "Outlook" functionality; enabled Mailbox Replication Service Proxy (MRSProxy) to facilitate mailbox moves from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Online; installation of newer Exchange Server 2016 (running on Windows Server 2016) for Exchange online management and facilitate mailbox migrations; as well as technical configurations in Exchange Online and Proofpoint Enterprise policies to ensure successful mail flow between these systems.

In the interim, resolved issues with Public Autodiscover, Outlook Clients on Citrix, M365 MFA, group policies supporting Outlook connections to Exchange Online, and encryption services. Finally, all Exchange 2010 servers were gracefully decommissioned from their local Active Directory environment.

Large (10000+) Enterprise Insurance Services Company

Worked with Company to migrate their PKI infrastructure from Windows Server 2012 based Certificate Authority (CA) servers to Windows Server 2019, which meant a rebuild of the Offline Root Certificate Authority and the associated Subordinate Certificate Servers.

During the process, migrated the Root CA database (with certificates) as well as the Subordinate CA databases (with certificates) to new production Windows 2019 servers using the built-in export utility and Registry configuration. All 400 plus certificates previously issued were successfully migrated over, along with transfer of certificate Private Keys; settings for CRL, Distribution Points and Auto Enrollment. All original Certificate Authority servers were gracefully decommissioned.

Small (<500) Video Solutions Engineering Company

Worked with Company to repair their Active Directory infrastructure and synchronize user identities to Azure Active Directory. Their Active Directory environment was replete with failed installations of on premises and Azure based, Domain Controllers. After troubleshooting to understand the scope.

I created new Windows Serv 2019 Domain Controllers in their local and Azure environment, as well as cleaned up quite a few orphaned Computer objects that were interfering with AD DFSR replication of the SYSVOL share between local and cloud-based Domain Controllers. I replaced their outdated Azure AD Connect (version 1) with the latest Entra Connect (version 2). Reviewed their Azure computer resource allotment, identified and made recommendations for deletion all computer resources that were non-functional that Company was paying for on monthly Azure subscription.

Small (<500) Law Firm

Worked with Law Firm facilitating a "Teams Governance Workshop", often provided by e360 to Companies that have or are planning to implement Microsoft Teams. In this Teams Workshop I mitigated the client's concerns for proper security and governance controls.

We walked through planning of Teams usage scenarios for individual departments and groups. As well as determined the work effort and timeline for their deployment. In this 3-Day Teams workshop, I provided guidance on the following topics:

  • Teams usage and governance
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Teams creation groups
  • Naming conventions
  • Best practice Teams standardization (Teams vs. channels)
  • User types and departments
  • Classification
  • Retention, expiration, and archiving
  • Discuss requirements for Office 365 backups
  • Guest access and external access (federation)
  • Private and Public Channels
  • Information barriers
  • Blocked and allowed apps
  • Meeting policies
  • Messaging policies
  • Administrator and user training requirements
  • Deployment phases
  • Data security
  • Compliance policies
  • Teams Apps
  • Auditing and reporting
  • Teams Calling Capabilities
  • Teams Meeting Rooms Capabilities

During the workshop we were able to make real time decisions and configurations changes on their M365 Tenant, as well as document recommended configuration to occur in later phases of Teams deployment. At the end of this workshop the client received a "Teams Workshop Assessment and Recommendations Document" outlining the organization's operational requirements for their Teams deployment and a high-level deployment plan.

Enterprise (80,0000) Retail Company

Designed and implemented migration of 76K+ accounts from on-premises Lync 2013 to production Skype for Business Server 2019 environment hosted in AWS IaaS cloud services, creating resource groups, and EC2 instances for multiple AWS Virtual Private Clouds segregating Skype 2019 Edge, Front-end, and Backend services. Configured external network communications with only confirmed Federated partners. Documented an internal AWS “Case Study”.

Enterprise (100,000) Oil and Gas Company

Designed and implemented migration of 100K+ accounts world-wide on deployment schedule and maintained operational continuity during migration of Outlook and Skype accounts for both Client on premise migration (60K), and acquisition of end users (40K+) from Tenant-Tenant migration. This project optimized their ability to meet critical business objective requirements and meet divesture requirements for separation of technical services.
